DESIGN: The 2011 Decorator’s Show House Program

2011 The 2011 Decorator’s Show House Program, sponsored by Junior League of Buffalo and The Buffalo News published by Buffalo Spree Publishing, Inc. Front Cover: After receiving a photo of the Bayliss-Oshei Residence for the cover, I decided to add some texture to the background, utilizing the green and reds of the interior design, overlaying with the elegant font chosen by the Junior League. Our goal was to infuse bright, vibrant colors throughout the book, contrasting the plain, grayscale books of the past. Inside Layout: Building off of 2009’s design,…

DESIGN: MyFavorites.com [spec]

Having a seven degrees of Kevin Bacon moment connecting me to a design contest online for a new website called MyFavorites.com, I decided to throw my hat into the ring with an entry. By following the design brief copied below, I looked to create a brandable, unique star/heart hybrid as requested, incorporating the ‘MY’ from the name as its basis. The design was unfortunately not picked amongst the 800+ entries, but I still believe it’s something worth keeping on file and adds a bit more professionalism to the goofy entries…

DESIGN: Buy Buffalo [spec]

Nick Mendola—a friend and constant collaborator of mine—had an idea to try and drive funds into the local, Mom-and-Pop businesses of the Western New York region. He was looking to make the city’s restaurants commodities unto themselves by creating a campaign to help push them into the public’s consciousness so entrenched in the allure of national franchises. After hearing his pitch of ideas to give price tags to the city, I came up with an alternative that would actually make the city the price. Using the concept of a barcode,…

DESIGN: The Western New York Performing Arts Guide 2010

2010 The Western New York Performing Arts Guide 2010, published by Buffalo Spree Publishing, Inc. Front Cover: Using the abstract concept of a Buffalo waterfront representation (idea from Art Director Chastity Taber) and basing graphics from the vector artwork of Josh Flanigan, I minimalized the crucial buildings needed for the image to read Buffalo/WNY, and played with their transparency along with added layers of spotlights, all while utilizing bright, vibrant colors to catch the eye. Inside Layout: Building off of 2009’s design, I kept the three column format, reduced the…

PHOTOGRAPHY: FC Buffalo/FC Reading

With tonight’s win, the FC Buffalo side completed its inaugural season in the NPSL. Finishing third place in the Northeast, Keystone Conference, the Blitzers ended the year with an impressive 6-2-4 record, having been the only team to defeat first place FC Sonic. Personally, my own record was 3-0, each match a clean sheet for the team—so I know I did my part. The finale had a little of everything from great goal scoring (Rich Wilson earning the Golden Boot with his 6th goal of the season); a little 7v7…
